Fill

Fill

Fill

Fill refers to materials that are used to fill in areas or spaces in construction or landscaping. It is typically used to raise or level the ground, support structures or fill voids. The term “fill” can refer to a variety of materials, such as soil, gravel, or sand.

The Dirt Guy sells fill dirt which is a type of soil used to fill in low areas, create a stable bae or improve drainage. Unlike topsoil, fill dirt lacks organic matter.

Here are some common uses for fill:

1. Site preparation. Fill is often used to level or raise the ground. It can help create the right
slopes for drainage purposes to prevent water from pooling or flooding areas.
2. Trench backfill. After installation of pipes, cables or other underground utilities, fill is
used to backfill the trenches and restore the surface.
3. Landscaping. Fill is often used to create berms, backfill garden beds or raise areas of the
yard. It can be used behind retaining walls to improve stability and prevent erosion.

Types of fill:

1. Fill dirt. Typically composed of subsoil (the layer beneath the topsoil), fill dirt lacks organic matter, making it less prone to settling or decomposing over time. Fill dirt may contain clay, sand, rocks and other inert materials, but is generally free of contaminants and large debris. The Dirt Guy’s fill dirt is screened to 1". It is commonly used for grading.
2. Gravel fill. Gravel is a popular fill material for areas that need drainage, such as around foundations or in trenches.
3. Sand fill. Sand is used as a fill material in certain situations where drainage is important, such as around pipes and in sports fields.
4. Clay fill. Clay is denser and less permeable than other types of fill, often used in road and foundation construction.
5. Crushed stone or rock fill. Commonly used in construction and civil engineering for its stability, strength and ability to withstand heavy loads.

Fill is any material used to fill, raise or level ground to prepare it for construction, landscaping or other purposes. The type of fill used depends on the needs of the project, such as drainage, stability or support. The Dirt Guy sells 1"-minus screened fill dirt for $20/cubic yard.
